Design: The very first item is the creation
of the building geometry. In the simplest of terms this is the
CAD like design of the building complete with roof trusses,
wall frames, floor and substructure.
Execute Engineering: Once the geometry is
defined, the user is able to activate the engineering module
from either the pull down menu or the engineering icon button.
Mechanical Properties: Each graphical entity
used in creation of the building is associated with a stock
item. These stock items are contained within a relational database
containing pricing details along with dimensional and mechanical
properties.
Loads: The first pass by the engineering
module is to apply the live, dead and wind loads to the structure.
The wind load is based on the wind category that has been entered
at the time of creating the project while dead loads are obtained
from the inventory list of components used in the creation of
the design. Live loads are featured throughout the design to
cater for service and maintenance activities.
Analysis: All of the load conditions that
have been applied to the engineering module use a top/down process
to analyse the resultant forces in each structural member and
through connections/fasteners.
Design Check: The last process is to determine
if the building design complies with the relevant specification
being AS4600(Subject to country of operation)
Change: The user can amend the design or
open up the entity properties dialog and select one of the possible
rectification solutions.
Engineering Flag: If the engineering process
has confirmed that the design complies,an "Engineering Completed"
flag is set "True". Once this flag has been set to true, then
reports can be produced along with quotation and drawings.
BOM/ROM: The last process is to create a
list of all materials used in the supply of the building along
with the work activities to roll, assemble and install the building.
The bills of material(BOM) and bills of work(BOW) enable a very
detailed and accurate costing to be performed including a quotation
for the customer.
